Our statement on Covid-19 and Arts Sector Support

Last updated: 12th May 2020

Our team is closely following the situation related to the spread of COVID-19 coronavirus. For the safety of our team, artists and attendants we have rescheduled The Space in Sound programme for September, and are currently adapting other scheduled events for digital presentation.

We have not taken these decisions lightly, but believe it to be the best for the sake of the community to make proactive changes while we have the chance to reduce health risks to everyone connected to the events.

Lighthouse’s venue hire is closed until further notice. Please contact info@lighthouse.org.uk to discuss bookings for Summer 2020 and beyond.

These decisions are hugely impacting artists, speakers, and freelancers from our local community and those who were set to come from around the world to share their work in our programmed events, as well as the arts and cultural sector as a whole. It is critical for us to mobilise and provide any support we can in this unprecedented time.

If you are able to contribute a donation it would greatly contribute to our efforts to ensure our organisation and its network of creatives are getting the care and aid necessary. Lighthouse is a registered charity and hugely relies on our commercial venue hire and ticket sales (both of which have been compromised due to Coronavirus) for financial stability.

Some of the first artists affected by Lighthouse’s decision to postpone its programme are musicians and composers invited to perform at The Space in Sound Symposium. You can support them by purchasing their music. This Friday, 20th March, Bandcamp are waiving artist fees for all purchases to ensure musicians are getting maximum pay for their work. Click on the artists’ names below to visit their Bandcamp pages:

Nina Pixel
Ji Youn Kang
Lee Gamble
Rie Nakajima
Hugo Esquinca

And you can stream music for Fedde ten Berge.
