Join us for our first Open Session of 2023, exploring class in the creative sector. From highlighting barriers and sharing experiences, to current shifts within the industry, we’ll discuss how networks, collectivising, and knowledge sharing can help support communities and move things forwards alongside systemic change. Come along to hear from working class creatives on how they have, and continue to navigate the sector, the tools and resources they use, and how they work together to support each other and create change.
This Open Session will feature a diverse panel of speakers including:
Bobby Brown - Creative Producer, Artist Manager, Community Worker and Broadcaster
Scarlett Fae - Multi-disciplinary music artist creating ethereal soul
Curtis James - Ethnographic photographer, filmmaker and story gathere
Seren Metcalfe - Artist, Writer and Founder of the Working Class Creatives Database
The evening will include a short performance by LYC alum, talented writer and spoken word artist-activist Hazel Davis.
As part of this Open Session we’re collaborating with Aghh! Zine who will document the event by creating a mini zine, capturing the thoughts, ideas and resources that are shared in the session. We will provide paper, pens and post-its for you to make note of anything you’d like to share, and we will be audio recording the session. Once created, the mini-zine will be shared across our digital platforms after the event, alongside the audio recording and transcript.

ABOUT LIGHTHOUSE YOUNG CREATIVES
Lighthouse Open Sessions are an opportunity to make new connections, meet like-minded people, hear from creative people about their career-defining moments and gain advice for getting started in the creative and digital sector.
Lighthouse Young Creatives is a personal and professional development scheme for young people in Brighton & Hove aged 16-25 who aspire to work in the creative industries but face exclusion through lack of access and barriers to participation.
First launched in 2018, the scheme equips participants with the skills, confidence and connections they need to enhance their employability, entrepreneurship and future career prospects through a six-month programme of production skills training, business development support, mentoring, showcasing and networking.
This event is funded by Sussex Community Foundation.
